How MAMAKO Protects Student Data.
MAMAKO shows live captions of what a teacher says, translates them for students learning in English, and writes a short recap after class. It is built to collect as little as possible, and to keep student information out of it wherever it can.
This page covers MAMAKO Feedback and MAMAKO Captions in the classroom. The AP Business course is a separate product with student accounts of its own, and the privacy policy covers it.

What Happens to Student Work
Deleted After 30 Days or When the Link Ends
Photos, recordings and comments are deleted 30 days after you last work on the essay, or once its student link stops working, whichever comes later. The PDF you download is your copy.
No Student Accounts
Students open their link without an account. Their names are on your class list and on their essays, and their school emails only on the class list, which goes when you delete the class.
It Never Grades on Its Own
A writing model turns your recording into comments in your style. It never grades on its own and never sees an essay you did not photograph.

During the lesson
- The Teacher’s Voice, Not the Room
- On the teacher’s laptop, a filter set to the teacher’s speaking level sends quieter sound, such as students talking across the room, as silence. It is on unless the teacher turns it off or the browser cannot measure the microphone, and the teacher’s screen says when it is off. It works best with a microphone at the teacher’s collar, and a loud voice close to the microphone still gets through.
- Text in Real Time, No Recordings
- Speech becomes caption text as the teacher talks, and MAMAKO keeps no recording of the lesson.
- Roster Names Starred Out
- When a teacher loads a class roster, MAMAKO stars those names out on the teacher’s laptop before anything is saved. Very short names, names in non-Latin scripts and misheard names can still slip through.
- Translation Stays on the Laptop
- Caption translation happens on the teacher’s own computer, and on each student’s laptop when the teacher turns on Student Screens. The translated text never reaches MAMAKO.
- Student Screens Only If the Teacher Turns Them On
- A teacher can let students follow the lesson on a school laptop, in their own language. Students need no account, and the copy of the captions their laptops read is deleted when the lesson ends.
After the lesson
- The Teacher Stays in Control
- After class, nothing reaches students until the teacher shares the recap, and the teacher can hide any sentence, note or phrase first.
- Transcripts Do Not Linger
- The word-for-word transcript is for the teacher only, and it is deleted automatically seven days after the lesson, or sooner if the school asks.
- Sharing by Link
- Teachers share recaps and class glossaries by link. A shared page carries no roster, the names MAMAKO starred out stay out, and a teacher can switch a link off at any time.
Our commitments
- We never record or store classroom audio.
- We never sell school data, show ads or build profiles.
- We do not use school data to train AI models.
- We keep no assessment of any named student.
- Students need no account. They read what their teacher shares.

- Anyone holding the class code, during the lesson
- Kept:
- Deleted when the lesson ends, or within six hours if the teacher’s browser closes first

- Only the teacher who entered it
- Kept:
- Until the teacher removes it, or 30 days after the class is removed

Deletion and security. A school can ask us to delete all of its data at any time. We delete it within 30 days and confirm in writing. If a security incident ever affects school data, we tell the school within 72 hours of finding it.
