Net Income

What is left after every subtraction from the top line: for a business, revenue minus all expenses; for an individual, gross pay minus all taxes and deductions.

Used interchangeably with net profit for the bottom line, and used with a qualifier for the stops above it, as when operating profit is described as income before interest and taxes. On a pay stub the same term is the net pay line, gross income minus every mandatory and voluntary deduction, and it is the only figure a budget may be built on.

Net is what lands in the net, so a budget is built on net.
