Bankruptcy

A legal proceeding for a business or individual unable to repay what it owes, in which assets are sold off, debts are cleared or rescheduled, and the debtor either shuts for good or reorganizes under a court's supervision.

A business may shut down or pursue bankruptcy when it cannot access enough current assets to fund operations, which can happen even to a business reporting positive net income.
